Summer 2009 Newsletter
Farm Credit shines as a model GSE. According to a special report recently released by the
Congressional Oversight Panel (COP), the agricultural
sector has fared better than the broader economy. Despite the current instability in the economy, the
Farm Credit System continues to make credit available
for agriculture and rural areas, and provided almost
$1 billion in new credit to agriculture during the
first quarter of this year. In addition, the entire Farm
Credit System returned over $2.6 billion to its owners
during the last five years, money that stays in agriculture
and contributes to our members’ success.
